R-Squared Peer Groups: FAQ’s

Is R-Squared right for me?

Which individuals are best positioned to participate in R-Squared Peer Groups?

RevJen currently offers peer groups for the CEO/ED role and for the Chief Development Officer/Director of Development role. Even if your title is something a little different, if you have the types of duties these positions would oversee, then you would benefit from participating.

About Participation

Are there any participation or attendance requirements?

For the collective good of the peer group and for your own optimal professional development, and to maintain any scholarships you may receive, we ask that participants attend at least 80% of the sessions. If you are unable to attend a session due to unforeseen circumstances, we just ask that you communicate that to your facilitator in advance of your group meeting.

About Commitment

What is the time commitment? (time/cadence/overall commitment)

R-Squared groups meet once a month, for two hours. Membership lasts for a year (12 months), but the group will meet eleven times during that year. There is one month (usually November or December) that the group decides by consensus not to meet.

About Process

What does a normal meeting look like? What is the process flow?

Typically, members “check in” at the beginning of each meeting, then share a topic (issue, opportunity, or challenge) that they would like to bring forward for feedback. The group selects the topic(s) to process through clarifying questions, deep discussion, experience-sharing, advice, and feedback. The topic presenter commits to action(s) and reports back at the next meeting.

I’ve participated in peer groups before, how is this one different?

R-Squared is different from most peer groups because they are professionally facilitated, and cohorts are grouped by position or functional role within their organization. Group members process and vote on topics for discussion each session.

About Group Composition

How do you put the groups together?

We consider the size of the organization, the position of the leader, and the goals that members have for their R- Squared experience.

What if I start, and the group you place me in isn’t the right fit?

Usually, members find a good fit with their first group. If not, we work with them and their facilitator to find a better fit.

Can there be other people from my organization in my group?

R-Squared is designed to be an experience where leaders can be totally candid in sharing their professional challenges and opportunities; only one person per organization is in any one group.

Are these groups diverse?

Every R-Squared group is different, with varying diversity across multiple dimensions, including geography, mission, and the members’ personal life experiences, tenure as a leader, race, ethnicity, etc.

How many people are in a group?

Typically, there are 10-15 individuals (not including the facilitator) in a group.

About Logistics

How does each meeting get scheduled?

If you become a member of a new R-Squared group, you will opt-in to a pre-set schedule that works for you. If you join an existing group, you will also know the schedule ahead of time. Occasionally, groups decide to shift their start or end time if they all agree to the change.

Do we meet in-person or virtually?

Our peer groups meet virtually at this time.

What is the cost of R-Squared (or an in-kind donation write-off, for scholarship participants)?

The annual cost for a person to be an R-Squared member is $3,000. The availability of scholarships, and an individual’s eligibility for a scholarship will be discussed during the enrollment interview. For the collective good of the peer group, for your own optimal professional development, and to maintain any scholarships you may receive, we ask that participants attend at least 80% of the sessions. If you are unable to attend a session due to unforeseen circumstances, we just ask that you communicate that to your facilitator in advance of your group meeting.

What platform is used for the meetings?

R-Squared sessions happen over Zoom, and related materials and links are accessed through our learning management system.
